New Iowa Workers' Compensation Laws Effective July 1, 2017

iStock-scalesofjustice (1).jpgHouse File 518, legislation making significant changes to Iowa’s Workers’ Compensation laws goes into effect on July 1, 2017.  Major changes were made relating to shoulder injuries and industrial disability, while many other changes relating to intoxication defense, determining date of injury, commencement of permanent partial disability (PPD), credits for overpayments, apportionment, Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs), interest, and temporary benefits were also made.

All sections will apply to injuries that occur on or after July 1, 2017 with the exception of the changes to laws relating to commutations, which will apply to all commutation applications filed on or after July 1, 2017.
